Philip Stokes Studio Glass Opening
The Hon Senator Rod Kemp officially launched the new studio of glass artist Philip Stokes, Philip Stokes Studio Glass (PSSG), Abbotsford Convent on Monday 13 November 2006.
Philip Stokes brought out his theatre background to put on a glass blowing show where guests experienced the spontaneity, improvisation and chance of glass art creation.
One of the first artists to establish himself in the new arts precinct, the Abbotsford Convent, Philip Stokes established PSSG to provide the area with a unique inner city hotshop and gallery that offers specialised Glass design consultation service for specific commission.
Stokes wants the studio to be more than just a retail enterprise. "My vision for PSSG is to deliver support to emerging artists and professional glass blowers, whilst offering a centre for cultural exchange, education and artistic dialogue," Stokes says.
"PSSG is here to provide a place for artists who work in glass to realize their creative ideas and develop their professional careers in the art form."
Stokes is excited to contribute to the diversity of Melbourne’s Arts scene and looks forward to sharing this with the broader community.
